That wallpaper border had to GO!

This is not an adventure post but something I’ve been wanting to do for over a year. Warning: This post only applies to those who live where there are actual seasons with drastic weather changes, who don’t live in their RV full time or don’t have a 4 seasons camper. All of the above apply to us! We live in Ohio, America’s heartland. We have a saying in Ohio that goes like this: ” Oh, you don’t like the weather? Just wait 5 minutes and it will change!”. So true. We still work full time and there’s no campgrounds open on the weekends in the winter here so our camping days are over, at least for a few months. We winterized, packed up and put away everything. Now I just sit and stare at our camper parked in the driveway hoping that soon we will be out and about again. Does anyone else just want to be in their camper so bad that you go out and hang out in it even when you’re not going anywhere? Is there a term for this? A diagnosis, like SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder)? I can’t be the only one who really misses my camper in the winter, lol. I’ll crank the heat and just sit, maybe watch tv or read a little or even plan out how to decorate or change things around. It’s kind of a nice change because I feel like during the summer we are always on the go and the camper is in so much use that I don’t get a chance to play with it. You know what I mean, there’s no time to change around the storage containers or put-up new curtains or add some splashy new wallpaper. So, the good news is I finally got a chance to change some things up! I removed the border that ran around the kitchen and living area (it wasn’t the ugliest I have ever seen but it wasn’t our style either). Has anyone else dreamed of doing this? I had been trying to figure out how to remove our dated border and had watched a few videos but never got up the nerve to actually take off the border.  After all of my worrying, it was actually pretty simple. All I did was get a corner loosened by scraping carefully at it with a razor blade. Next, I heated a section gently with a hair dryer and pulled it lightly at the same time. If you’re thinking about doing this, just be sure to not get the paper too hot or pull too hard (or fast! Beware, this takes patience, lots of patience) because you can separate your wallpaper from the backing board. This method does leave a layer of sticky residue behind, but I was able to remove it using GoofOff  (DON”T use GooGone, others have found out that it removes the color from the paper) and a microfiber towel. You can get some by clicking the link!

Here’s a video of how I did it:

After removing it from the kitchen area I put up some navy blue peel and stick subway tiles from Amazon and I think it looks great!! I also took down the hard valances and replaced them with regular curtain rods to give it a more homey feel.

Even though I’m missing my home away from home I just keep thinking about how nice it will be next year after I get all these little projects and finishing touches done that I’ve bee
